Super alloy 5 is an aluminum welding rod that brazes all types of aluminum with any torch: oxyacetylene, mapp gas, natural gas, oxy-map, or propane. the resulting bond is stronger than the parent metal (30,000 psi) and can be bent, drilled, anodized, machined, plated, tapped or threaded.
Copper tipped, aluminum hold down fingers are standard on all jetline seam welders, the copper tipped hold down fingers assist in the chilling the weld joint. copper tooling absorbs and dissipates heat through the use of additional thermal mass, operating under pressure against the work piece.

Mar 06, 2007 george; i used the slow set jb weld on two engines and so far it's doing the job. the first was a 1913 gray and it worked out well. i used a spatula that came with bondo and put the epoxy in the cylinder with a tongue depressor and then held the plyable plastic spatula tight against the cylinder and squeegeed it as smooth as i could get it.
I've been researching tonight and it seems that most cylinder head repairs say 200*-400*f helps, so barring any better suggestions i'll probably preheat to somewhere between 300-400* and hope to be 250 while welding. weld; not sure if i want to cover it up with a blanket or something after welding
Dec 04, 2019 the second yellow square with 14 stands for the year. and for this cylinder it tells you that this gas cylinder’s last test was done in 2014. this particular compressed gas cylinder bottle was last tested in january 2014. and if those are the only date stamps on this gas cylinder. then this is the date the cylinder was made and first tested.
Oct 25, 2009 the big thing to remember, if you are welding anywhere near the middle of the cylinder, shrinkage is a possibility. even to the point, that the piston won't make it thru. even welding cracks, at the top end or the bottom end, it's possible to tighten everything up, to the point the piston will jam.

Incomplete weld circuit. check work clamp to assure it is securely fastened to work. incorrect cable installation. check circuit breakers and fuses. check and tighten all cable connections. no shielding gas. check for gas flow at end of torch. check for empty cylinder or closed shut-off valve. gas flow should typically be set at 15 to 20 cfh.
A dot 4e cylinder is a welded aluminum cylinder with a water capacity (nominal) of not over 1,000 pounds and a service pressure of at least 225 to not over 500 psig. the cylinder must be constructed of not more than two seamless drawn shells with no more than one circumferential weld. the circumferential weld may not be closer to the point of

Thick aluminum (like cylinder heads) requires a powerful welder. some sources say “at least 275 amps” is needed to weld cylinder heads, but i’m not sure this would be sufficient. my experience is that 350 amps is a good “max” setting, even when the cylinder head is preheated before welding.

It also can be a good choice for welding most 6xxx alloys. now let’s concentrate on those applications in which 4043 is chosen. regarding differences between 4043 and 4047, 4043 basically is aluminum with 5 percent silicon added, while 4047 is aluminum with 12 percent silicon added. the additional silicon has several effects.
Jun 10, 2003 re: jb weld for cylinder scoring? jb weld is an epoxy composite with metal filings as filler. epoxy is a catalyzed (2 part mix) plastic resin. as plastics go epoxies will hold up to fairly high temps say 300-400 degrees f (somebody here probably knows exactly) but it is a plastic and it will start to loose some of its desirable qualities before it starts to burn.
Apr 28, 2011 cast aluminum is a tough material to weld, also even if you have the right alloy of aluminum for welding the contamination caused by years of immersion in oil, fuel and other grime can often render a decent weld near impossible. login to reply
Oct 06, 2011 with tig welding, an alternating current (ac) power source is generally used. aluminum forms an oxide layer on the surface, which can contaminate the weld. an ac power source switches the polarity of the arc between positive and negative.

Dec 03, 2014 all aluminum cylinder heads have some sort of hardened valve seat, with steel being the most common, although some alloys are used as well. regardless, the process is the same. i will post more pics as the repair progresses, and whether it will work or not is yet to be seen.
Welding aluminum is a task best left to the professionals. if you do know how to weld aluminum, the equipment is expensive to rent and not cost-effective for small repairs. repairing aluminum with epoxy is cost-effective and easy. you need to use an epoxy that is aluminum-based to ensure that it bonds correctly to the surface of the aluminum.
Trying to use aluminum at a service temperature of 600 degrees is probably a very bad idea. i know a few of you reading this will probably dispute this considering we use aluminum alloys for cylinder heads and cylinder blocks, where the combustion chamber gets a lot hotter than 350 degrees.
Apr 22, 2012 hi guys, i'm working on a hidden fastener solution for my dash. i have aluminum pieces i need to bond to the back of the dash to do this. i used jb weld last night and about 5 minutes after bonding i couldn't pry it off to save my life. go out this morning and they literally fell off when i...
